To clear the IMU CET with a high rank, you don’t need to work harder; you need to work smarter. The exam consists of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be solved in 180 minutes. Without a subject-wise weightage strategy, students often waste time on low-yield topics.
The Core Subjects (PCM)
- Mathematics (50 Questions): This is the rank-maker. Focus heavily on Calculus, Vectors, 3D Geometry, and Probability.
- Physics (50 Questions): The questions range from theoretical concepts to numerical problems. Important chapters include Electrostatics, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics.
- Chemistry (20 Questions): This is usually the easiest section. Stick to NCERT basics, focusing on Organic Chemistry and Periodic Tables.
The Competitive Edge: Aptitude and English Many students focus so much on PCM that they ignore the 50 marks allocated to English and General Aptitude.
- English (25 Questions): Focus on parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and error spotting.
- General Aptitude (25 Questions): This includes logical reasoning, data interpretation, and basic maritime awareness (e.g., famous ports, ship types).
Preparation Strategy A balanced approach is key. Spend 70% of your time on PCM for depth, and 30% on Aptitude and English for speed. Mock tests should be taken weekly to improve time management.
